A shocking fast-food confrontation has turned into a murder case after a young employee was gunned down at a Steak ’n Shake drive-thru in Missouri—reportedly over an argument about onion rings.

Prosecutors say 20-year-old Jada Bell is now facing multiple felony charges, including murder and armed criminal action, in connection with the fatal shooting of Chauncia Meekins earlier this month. The violence unfolded on the night of April 8 at a Steak ’n Shake in Spanish Lake, a community just north of St. Louis.

According to court records, Bell pulled up to the drive-thru window and got into a heated dispute with employees over her order. The argument quickly escalated.

Investigators say Bell threw a drink at Meekins during the confrontation. Meekins reportedly threw it back—seconds before everything turned deadly.

Authorities allege Bell then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots into the drive-thru window, striking Meekins and another person. Meekins died from her injuries, while the second victim was hit in the hand.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, and investigators say Bell’s phone placed her at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Family members say the dispute that led to the violence was over onion rings.

“It’s never that serious to take a person’s life over fast food,” Meekins’ mother, Tamela Washington, said.

Days after the charges were announced, loved ones gathered outside the restaurant for an emotional vigil, mourning the loss of a life taken far too soon.

“I saw my daughter as she’s getting ready to be laid to rest… she looked beautiful, she looked happy,” her father, Chauncey Lovell Meekins, said. “Now I know why she is happy… because her crime has been solved.”

While the arrest brings some sense of closure, the pain remains.

“As a family, we will be pushing for the death penalty—not for revenge, but to set an example,” said Meekins’ cousin, Anthony Willhite. “We need to stop this senseless violence.”

He added that what happened could have happened to anyone.

“Chauncia just so happened to be in harm’s way. This could have been anyone’s child… at a gas station, at a store—anywhere.”

Bell is currently being held on a $1 million cash-only bond, and her next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
