A rising country music star who once lit up national TV has tragically died in a sudden accident, leaving fans and his hometown in shock.
Dylan Carter, best known for his appearance on The Voice, has died at just 24 years old. The young singer was killed Saturday night, April 25, in a car crash in Colleton County, South Carolina, according to Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr..
“Our family is heartbroken,” the mayor said in a statement, remembering Carter not just as a performer, but as a close friend to the community. “He frequently entertained our town and brought people together. He was much more than an entertainer.”
Carter, a St. George, South Carolina native, had been scheduled to perform just days later at Moncks Corner’s “Music on Main” event on April 27—making the loss even more devastating for those who were looking forward to seeing him take the stage again.
He first captured national attention in 2023 on season 24 of The Voice, where he earned a rare four-chair turn during his blind audition. Performing a powerful rendition of I Look to You, originally by Whitney Houston, Carter moved both the judges and viewers, dedicating the performance to his late mother. He joined Team Reba McEntire but was later eliminated during the Battle Rounds after performing “Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson.
After the show, Carter returned home to South Carolina, where he continued chasing his music dreams while also building a life rooted in community. He balanced performing with a career in real estate, even calling himself “The Singing Realtor.”
Beyond music, he made a lasting impact through charity work. Carter co-founded The Local Voice, a nonprofit focused on hosting singing competitions and raising money to support women battling breast cancer.
“With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter,” the organization said in a statement. “He was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day.”
Carter remained active in the local music scene, performing at events like the Coastal Carolina Fair in 2024 and continuing to grow his fanbase.
Now, his sudden death has left a community grieving the loss of not just a talented young artist, but someone who gave back, inspired others, and brought people together through his voice.

He is now with the Lord’s singers.
