Veteran character actor Beau Starr, known for his roles in Goodfellas and the Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers franchise, has died at the age of 81.

His brother, Mike Starr, shared the news, saying Beau passed away peacefully of natural causes in Vancouver, Canada. He remembered him as “very unique and special,” marking the loss of a familiar face fans had seen across decades of film and television.

Born on September 1, 1944, in Queens, New York, Starr’s path to Hollywood wasn’t typical. Before stepping in front of the camera, he pursued a career in sports, spending time on the New York Jets’ practice squad from 1966 to 1968 before continuing in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

He eventually made the jump to acting, landing his first on-screen role in 1979 on the sketch comedy show Bizarre. From there, his career took off, with appearances across a wide range of hit TV shows including TJ Hooker, Cagney & Lacey, Three’s Company, Knight Rider, The A-Team, MacGyver, Night Court, Matlock, Murder, She Wrote, Wings, NYPD Blue, Psych and many more.

Starr also held steady roles on television, including Lt. Bill Triplett in the NBC crime drama True Blue and Lt. Harding Welsh in the Canadian series Due South, where he became a recognizable presence throughout the 1990s.

On the big screen, he built a strong resume of supporting roles, including Sheriff Ben Meeker in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, along with appearances in films like Fletch, Speed, Devil in a Blue Dress and Cinderella Man.

While he may not have always been the leading man, Starr carved out a long, steady career as one of those actors audiences instantly recognized. His work spanned decades, genres, and generations — leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances that quietly helped shape some of Hollywood’s most iconic projects.
