A disturbing case out of California is raising alarms after a woman was accused of posing as a veterinarian and performing painful procedures on animals — then allegedly posting videos of it online.
Police in Visalia say 24-year-old Amanahy Becerra was arrested on April 29 following an investigation into multiple reports that she was carrying out medical procedures on pets without any proper training or license.
According to authorities, the situation quickly turned serious.
Detectives say Becerra allegedly performed procedures like C-sections, spaying, neutering, and ear cropping — all without the required credentials. Investigators also claim she was giving vaccines, though it’s unclear where she obtained the medications.
Even more troubling, police say proper anesthesia was not used, leaving animals to suffer intense and unnecessary pain.
As a result, several pets reportedly experienced serious complications and had to be rushed for emergency veterinary care. Tragically, one dog did not survive.
Officials say Becerra allegedly recorded some of the procedures and shared the footage on social media, which is now being reviewed as part of the investigation.
Authorities also claim she offered these services at heavily discounted prices and told pet owners she was qualified — something police say was not true.
“She was claiming to be licensed, but she wasn’t,” a police spokesperson said. “This is heartbreaking. Pets are family, and they rely on us to protect them.”
Becerra was taken into custody after a felony warrant was issued for animal cruelty. Police also carried out a search at her home as part of the case.
Investigators say the situation is still developing and are urging anyone who may have information — or who had contact with Becerra — to come forward.
As the investigation continues, the case is shining a harsh spotlight on the dangers of trusting unverified services, especially when it comes to the health and safety of animals.
