Ahmad Hardy is recovering after being shot during a concert in Mississippi over the weekend, according to school officials.
The 20-year-old Missouri Tigers running back underwent surgery Sunday, May 10, just hours after suffering a gunshot wound.
Thankfully, officials say Hardy is now in stable condition.
In a statement released by Mizzou Athletics, the school said the star player has the full support of the university and his teammates as he recovers.
“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the statement read. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”
According to ESPN reporter Pete Thamel, Hardy was alert Monday morning and even moving around following surgery, giving fans hope for a strong recovery.
Hardy, who is originally from Oma, Mississippi, transferred to Missouri from University of Louisiana-Monroe after a breakout 2024 season.
During his time there, he rushed for an impressive 1,351 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, quickly turning himself into one of college football’s rising stars.
His first season at Missouri only boosted his reputation.
Hardy became a finalist for the prestigious Doak Walker Award and earned SEC Newcomer of the Year honors after scoring 16 touchdowns and averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 256 rushing attempts.
After his breakout year, many expected Hardy to enter the NFL Draft, but he instead decided to stay at Missouri for another season.
Now, fans are anxiously waiting to see when he’ll be able to return to the field.
According to reports, there is optimism surrounding Hardy’s recovery and his chances of playing this upcoming season, though no official timeline has been announced yet.
“A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time,” the school said. “Mizzou Athletics will provide more information on his status when it becomes available.”
