Rock legend Eric Clapton abruptly ended his concert in Madrid after a fan allegedly threw an object that struck him in the chest while he was leaving the stage.

The shocking moment happened on May 7 at the Movistar Arena shortly after the 81-year-old guitar icon performed his hit song Cocaine during his latest 2026 tour stop.

Videos circulating online appear to show what looked like a vinyl record sleeve flying through the crowd and hitting Clapton as he walked offstage near the end of the concert.

Moments later, the music legend reportedly left without returning for his planned encore performance, leaving fans stunned.

Despite the scary incident, Clapton was reportedly unharmed and continued his tour just three nights later with a performance in Barcelona that went ahead without any problems.

The Madrid concert marked Clapton’s first appearance in the Spanish capital in 25 years, making the chaotic ending even more disappointing for longtime fans who had waited decades to see him perform there again.

During the current tour, Clapton has also been performing a cover of Bo Diddley’s classic Before You Accuse Me alongside some of his biggest hits, including Layla and Cocaine.

The legendary singer and guitarist still has major performances lined up this year, including a highly anticipated concert at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, as part of the HeritageLive festival series.

Clapton is scheduled to headline the event on August 23.

Festival organizer Giles Cooper praised the music icon ahead of the upcoming show, calling Clapton “one of the greatest musicians of all time.”

“It’s going to be such a special and unique event,” Cooper said. “One of those gigs where you say in years to come, ‘I was there!’”

So far, representatives for Clapton have not publicly commented further on the incident in Madrid.
