Martin Short’s family tragedy has become even more heartbreaking after new details reportedly surfaced about the death of his daughter, Katherine Short.
Katherine, 42, was found dead inside her Hollywood Hills home on February 23, according to reports citing the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The devastating discovery reportedly came after Martin, 76, became worried when he had not heard from his daughter for more than a day.
Authorities said the beloved Only Murders in the Building star asked a friend to check on Katherine after repeated attempts to reach her allegedly went unanswered.
When the friend arrived at the home, they reportedly found several handwritten notes placed throughout the residence, including messages on a locked bedroom door.
Emergency responders were then called.
Law enforcement officials later forced their way into the room, where Katherine was found dead in bed.
The Medical Examiner ruled her death a suicide, according to the report. Investigators also reportedly recovered a handgun at the scene.
The newly released findings also stated that Katherine had a documented history of depression and mental health struggles, including a prior suicide attempt years earlier. Toxicology results reportedly showed benzodiazepines in her system at the time of her death.
Katherine had lived a deeply private life despite being the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most recognizable comedy stars.

Katherine was the eldest child of Martin and Dolman.
Reports also said Katherine’s biological mother spoke publicly after her death, claiming she believed the tragedy could have been prevented if she had been allowed to maintain a closer relationship with Katherine throughout her life.
Martin recently spoke publicly about losing his daughter for the first time, describing the tragedy as “a nightmare.”
He also opened up about Katherine’s long private battle with mental illness.
