Prince William is reportedly furious with King Charles over claims that the monarch is willing to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back to the U.K.
According to new reports, William, 44, is said to be “appalled” by his father’s decision and has allegedly threatened to boycott Sandringham if Harry and Meghan are invited there.
The tension comes as Charles, 77, is reportedly prepared to pay for the Sussexes’ visit because he wants the chance to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for the first time in several years.
Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, have been estranged from the royal family since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Their relationship with William has remained especially strained after years of public criticism, interviews, and allegations about life inside the monarchy.
Royal expert Tom Sykes claimed William believes his father is being “weak” by trying to reconcile with Harry and Meghan. The Prince of Wales reportedly sees the move as a betrayal after everything that has happened between the brothers.
According to Sykes, William was so upset that he skipped a customary family lunch after Trooping the Color last weekend. Instead, he reportedly left the celebration with Kate Middleton and their three children immediately after the RAF flypast.
Friends of William are said to believe Charles should be showing more loyalty to his heir and giving his eldest son more respect.
The reported clash has also raised questions about whether Harry and Meghan could be allowed to stay on royal property during their visit.
Harry is expected to travel to Birmingham and London from July 6 to 10 for events ahead of next year’s Invictus Games. Reports claim Meghan and the couple’s two children could join him.
One possible option is Buckingham Palace, which is currently said to be without working royal residents because of its $488 million renovation. Insiders note that the palace is one of the safest buildings in Britain, protected by the Household Division, serving Army members, and armed Metropolitan Police officers.
Other possible places for the Sussexes to stay reportedly include St. James’s Palace in central London, Windsor Castle, or even their former home, Frogmore Cottage.
Frogmore has remained empty since Harry and Meghan were evicted in 2022, and it sits within the Windsor Castle security area.
Harry has previously turned down offers from the King to stay at royal residences during solo trips to the U.K.
The possible family reunion comes after Harry said in a May 2025 BBC interview that he still hoped for reconciliation with the royal family.
Harry briefly saw Charles in London after the King’s cancer diagnosis, meeting with him for less than 45 minutes at Clarence House. During that visit, Harry reportedly brought a framed photo of his children for his father.
The last time Harry, Meghan, and their children were all together in the U.K. was in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, when they stayed at Frogmore Cottage.
Meghan was both booed and cheered by crowds outside St. Paul’s Cathedral during a National Service of Thanksgiving. She and Harry later returned to the U.K. for the Queen’s funeral three months later, again staying at Frogmore, though without Archie and Lilibet.
Now, with Charles reportedly eager to reunite with the Sussexes and William said to be furious over the idea, the royal family could be heading toward another explosive standoff.
