L7’s farewell tour will move forward without founding bassist Jennifer Finch after the musician revealed she has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The pioneering grunge band announced the devastating news Monday, saying Finch, 59, is recovering from multiple surgeries and a series of serious complications.
“Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer,” L7 wrote in a joint statement shared on Instagram.
The band said Finch now requires extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation and professional in-home care as she continues her recovery.
L7 explained that The Last Hurrah Tour had been planned at a time “when all four of us were in good health and spirits.”
Following her diagnosis, Finch made the difficult decision to step away from the tour. She also encouraged her bandmates to continue without her.
“We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority,” the group said.
L7, along with Finch’s family and friends, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her growing medical expenses.
The fundraiser had collected more than $220,000 toward a $350,000 goal as of publication.
According to the campaign, doctors initially believed treatment could help Finch return to some version of her normal life.
“When she first heard the diagnosis, there was reason to believe that treatment… would get her back to some version of normal living,” the fundraiser states.
However, her condition became more complicated than expected.
“Unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks,” the campaign added.
Finch’s bandmates said they will continue supporting her while honoring her request to move ahead with the farewell tour.
