An Australian musician has shared the heartbreaking news that doctors believe he may have only a few months left to live after more than a year of battling stage 4 bowel cancer.
Jordan Brunoli, 29, bassist for Brisbane indie rock band Bugs, revealed that his cancer has continued spreading despite multiple rounds of treatment.
In an emotional statement shared through the band’s Instagram account Sunday, Brunoli said doctors told him in June that he had a prognosis of just three to four months.
“I have spent over a year now trying different chemotherapy drugs, backed by an amazing oncologist and treatment team,” he wrote.
“Unfortunately, I have a mutation that causes rapid growth of tumours, and none of the treatments have been able to stop the cancer from spreading.”
Brunoli said he is now entering what he called the “final chapter” of his life.
“I’m sharing this with everyone to keep y’all in the loop and be as upfront as possible,” he said.
Despite the devastating prognosis, Brunoli is determined to spend the time he has left doing what he loves most — making music.
Bugs, which has nearly 50,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, is preparing to release a new album, “Head Noise,” on Aug. 28.
The album has been in the works for two years and was recorded throughout Brunoli’s cancer battle.
He said the project means an enormous amount to him because the band kept going even during some of the hardest moments of his treatment.
“We kept recording when I was recovering from surgery, sick from chemo, even when I had neuropathy so bad I couldn’t feel the guitar I was playing,” Brunoli wrote.
“With the love and support of everyone, we are finally able to share it with you.”
The band has already released singles including “Tough Love” and “Crystal” ahead of the album.
And Brunoli isn’t planning to stop at releasing new music.
He also hopes to take the stage one more time with bandmates Connor Brooker and Brock Weston.
“My focus has always been on enjoying the music and sharing it with others,” he said.
“Playing, recording and touring around Australia with Bugs has been the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Then came one line that immediately got fans talking.
“If there were a few final shows coming up, you can bet I’ll be playing them.”
Brunoli also thanked Brooker and Weston for helping make one of his final wishes possible — releasing the album and performing together again before he dies.
The two bandmates previously launched a GoFundMe after Brunoli was diagnosed in 2025.
The fundraiser has since brought in more than $107,000, with supporters continuing to donate.
Fans flooded the comments under Brunoli’s post with messages of love, support and heartbreak after he shared his prognosis.
For Brunoli, though, the focus is on making the most of whatever time remains.
“Thank you everyone, and watch me enjoy… the rest of my life,” he wrote.
“Love, Jords.”
