A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Virginia State University that left five people wounded.

Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was taken into custody several hours after the Aug. 15 shooting after police allegedly found him hiding inside a dormitory closet in Seward Hall on campus.

Harris is not believed to be a student at Virginia State University.

Authorities said he was served with eight felony warrants, including malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police have not announced a possible motive.

The shooting erupted shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the Quad Annexes, a residential housing area on the VSU campus.

When officers arrived, they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds.

University officials initially said multiple suspects were believed to be involved.

One of the victims was a 20-year-old VSU student who has since been released from the hospital.

The other four victims were not students, according to authorities.

They include a 21-year-old man who remained in critical condition, along with a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy who suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

None of the victims have been publicly identified.

Harris is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond and could face additional charges as the investigation continues.

Virginia State University later lifted a campus lockdown after authorities said they no longer believed there was an immediate threat to students or staff.

The university said police would maintain an increased presence on campus while investigators continued working the case.

Multiple agencies are involved, including Chesterfield County Police, Virginia State University Police, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Chesterfield County Police or Crime Solvers.
