An Indianapolis Colts coach took a brutal hit during Thursday night’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Special teams coordinator Brian Mason was standing on the sideline during the final play of the fourth quarter when two players came crashing out of bounds and slammed directly into him.
The collision sent Mason tumbling to the ground, where he could be seen writhing in pain as players and staff rushed over.
Broadcast footage showed Mason caught underneath a pile of bodies after the play spilled off the field.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen later said Mason was being evaluated for a knee injury.

“He got rolled up right on the sideline that last play,” Steichen said after the game.
“So we’ll see. He’s getting evaluated for his knee right now.”
The frightening moment came at the very end of a 13-13 tie between Indianapolis and New England.
Because the NFL does not play overtime during the preseason, the game ended without a winner.
Quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard split snaps for the Colts.
Neither threw a touchdown, and both tossed an interception.
Richardson did manage to rush for a touchdown and 53 yards, but he also lost a fumble.
For Colts fans, though, one of the biggest concerns after the final whistle was Mason’s condition following the painful sideline collision.
