Dolly Parton reportedly spent the final weeks of her life largely hidden away at her Tennessee home as her health worsened behind closed doors.
According to new claims, only a small circle of family members and trusted insiders knew just how sick the 80-year-old country legend had become.
Sources said Parton had grown increasingly thin and had lost her hair as her condition declined, all while trying to reassure fans that she was still working and recovering.
In an interview published just four days before her death, Parton said she was dealing with health problems she had ignored while caring for her late husband, Carl Dean.
“I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” she said.
But insiders now claim Parton knew her condition was far more serious than she publicly let on.
One source told the Daily Mail that although Parton told fans she was “still working and healing,” she allegedly understood that her life may have been nearing its end.
“She tried to reassure her legions of fans that she wasn’t critically ill,” the source said, adding that Parton did not want to disappoint the people who had supported her for decades.
As her health worsened, Parton reportedly became increasingly reclusive.
Another insider claimed the singer barely left her sprawling Tennessee property during the final year of her life.
The source said Parton had plenty of privacy at the massive home and its surrounding grounds, allowing her to remain out of public view without needing to travel.
About six months before her death, the source said, Parton had reportedly stopped taking on new projects and was focusing almost entirely on her health.
She was also said to be limiting travel and visitors.
Rumors reportedly circulated that she had cancer, though the exact nature of her illness was not publicly confirmed at the time.
By her final days, sources claimed Parton was largely confined to bed.
One insider said she had become extremely thin and had lost her hair.
Parton had famously worn wigs throughout much of her career, making it easier for the severity of her condition to remain private.
Family members were reportedly by her side as her health took a final turn.
Parton died Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, according to reports.
Her team said she was surrounded by loved ones when she passed away.
Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, later announced her death in an emotional video shared through Parton’s official social media accounts.
He did not provide details about her illness or an official cause of death.
Instead, he focused on the faith and legacy that defined much of Parton’s life.
“Sadness lies with us, not with Dolly,” Seaver said.
He said Parton was now “in the arms of Jesus” and reunited with her late husband Carl, her parents and other loved ones who had died before her.
Seaver also reflected on how deeply Parton had become part of American life through her music, movies and television appearances.
“She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist,” he said, adding that her family and team would work to protect her legacy.
He ended his message to fans with a reference to one of her most famous songs.
“She will always love you.”
