At least 13 people were injured after a shuttle bus carrying employees crashed into a concrete wall at Newark Liberty International Airport early Monday morning.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. outside Terminal B departures on Level 3.
According to the Port Authority Police Department, the shuttle bus was transporting airport employees when it struck a barrier.
At least 13 people were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, though some were reportedly serious.
The condition of the shuttle bus driver was not immediately known.
Images from the scene showed heavy damage to the vehicle, including a smashed front windshield and significant damage along the right side.
The crash forced officials to temporarily close part of the roadway while emergency crews cleared debris and investigated the scene.
Newark Airport advised travelers on social media to drop off all Terminal B departing passengers on Level 2 because of police activity connected to the crash.
Despite the disruption outside the terminal, airport operations continued.
Air traffic was not affected, and Newark Liberty International Airport remained open.
Authorities said an investigation is now underway to determine what caused the shuttle bus to crash.
Newark Liberty is the second-busiest airport in the New York metropolitan airport system, behind John F. Kennedy International Airport.
