A wealthy Canadian businessman and his family were left seriously injured after three masked intruders stormed their multimillion-dollar mansion in the middle of the night, opening fire on the executive and his two adult daughters while attacking his wife with a hammer.
The terrifying home invasion unfolded shortly before 3:45 a.m. Thursday, October 29, inside an upscale gated residence in Toronto’s exclusive Bridle Path neighborhood, an area known for sprawling estates, celebrity homeowners and some of Canada’s most expensive real estate.
David Morton, CEO of Mac Group, was reportedly shot alongside his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, after the family attempted to defend themselves against the armed intruders.
His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was struck with a hammer during the violent confrontation, according to local reporting.
All four family members were rushed to the hospital, with two suffering potentially life-altering injuries. Police have not publicly confirmed which relatives sustained the most serious wounds.
The attack has rattled residents of one of Toronto’s wealthiest communities and raised concerns about a disturbing rise in violent home invasions targeting affluent neighborhoods.
According to Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith, the nightmare began when three masked men forced their way through the rear entrance of the family’s home on Hyde Park Circle.
Two intruders were armed with handguns, while the third carried a hammer. All three reportedly wore hooded clothing and masks to conceal their identities.
Once inside, the suspects confronted the family and demanded valuables, triggering a struggle that quickly turned violent.
“There was a struggle within the home,” Smith explained during a news conference, revealing that the intruders fired multiple gunshots during the confrontation.
Morton and both daughters suffered gunshot wounds, while his wife was injured in the attack involving the hammer.
A source familiar with the incident told the Toronto Sun that the family had attempted to fight off the intruders before the shooting began.
The outlet also reported that Morton and one daughter were shot in the leg, while the other daughter was struck in the arm. Those specific injury details have not been independently confirmed by police.
Despite the severity of the attack, all four victims survived and received emergency medical treatment.
Investigators initially reported that two family members had life-threatening injuries. Officials later described the injuries as life-altering, while the other two victims were said to have sustained serious but non-life-threatening wounds.
As the family received treatment, police launched an intensive search for the suspects, who fled the property in an SUV before officers arrived.
Authorities have not released descriptions of the men beyond their clothing and weapons, and no arrests had been announced as of the latest reports.
Investigators are reviewing security footage from inside the mansion in hopes of identifying the attackers and reconstructing the moments leading up to the violence.
But one of the most troubling questions remains unanswered: Why was this particular family attacked?
Police said they have not uncovered evidence indicating that Morton or his relatives were specifically targeted, raising the possibility that the intruders selected the residence while searching for valuables.
However, investigators have not ruled out other explanations, and it remains unclear whether anything was actually stolen.
“We have no information at this point to suspect that this particular home was targeted by the suspects,” Smith told reporters.
The circumstances are particularly unsettling because the attack occurred inside a gated property in a neighborhood where homeowners often rely on extensive security measures to protect themselves.
Toronto’s Bridle Path area, sometimes referred to as “Millionaires’ Row,” has long attracted prominent business executives, entertainers and other wealthy residents. Its enormous homes frequently feature private gates, expansive grounds and sophisticated surveillance systems.
Morton’s residence reportedly includes six bedrooms, a swimming pool and a tennis court, with an estimated value exceeding $2 million.
Yet those precautions were apparently not enough to prevent armed intruders from entering the property and confronting the family as they slept.
The attack has also renewed attention to a broader crime problem affecting wealthy Toronto neighborhoods.
Smith acknowledged that police have observed a shift in criminal activity, with carjackings declining while certain types of home invasions have increased.
Investigators believe some criminals are breaking into homes to obtain luxury vehicles, although authorities have not established whether vehicle theft played any role in the Morton family’s ordeal.
The family’s vehicle was reportedly not taken.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the attack and expressed sympathy for the injured family, describing the violence as deeply disturbing.
She also indicated that police would increase their presence in the neighborhood as the investigation continues.
For residents of Bridle Path, the incident has shaken the assumption that living in an exclusive, heavily secured community provides protection from violent crime.
Neighbors expressed shock that a family could be attacked so brutally inside its own home, particularly in a neighborhood where such incidents are relatively uncommon.
Police are now urging nearby residents to review security cameras, doorbell recordings and vehicle dashcam footage for anything unusual around the time of the break-in.
Investigators are particularly interested in identifying the SUV used by the suspects and determining whether the men had been seen in the neighborhood before the attack.
Smith promised that officers would pursue every available lead to identify the individuals responsible.
“People should be able to feel safe in their homes,” she said, emphasizing that bringing the suspects to justice remains a priority.
For Morton and his family, what should have been a peaceful night inside their home turned into a frightening struggle for survival.

They had security footage. Did they not have an alarm system armed? Hope they capture these tw@ts!
