San Antonio police fatally shot a 13-year-old boy who allegedly intentionally crashed a stolen car into a patrol vehicle early Friday morning, authorities said.
Officers were responding to gunfire near 5100 War Cloud Street shortly after 1 a.m. when they spotted a red car that matched the description of a vehicle involved in the shooting, police said.
When the car’s driver spotted a police vehicle in front of him, he threw it into reverse and struck another patrol car behind him, police Capt. Jesse Salame told NBC News.
“He reverses and tries to go back in the other direction. He doesn’t know that there’s a police car that is behind him,” Salame said. “And when he sees the other police car behind him, it looks like he veers in and crashes into that (police) car purposely on the driver’s side.”
An officer from that first patrol car then fired once into that fleeing vehicle, killing the 13-year-old driver, police said.
“He thought the other officer was going to be struck (again),” Salame said.
The driver was fatally wounded with the single shot and it wasn’t immediately clear if he had a gun, Salame added.
The boy was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to a statement by police Sgt. Washington Moscoso.
No officers were injured in the deadly confrontation and two other juvenile boys, riding with the 13-year-old, were taken into custody, officials said.
In a statement, police say officers were answering a report of multiple gunshots fired about 1:30 a.m. when they found and tried to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Instead of stopping, the suspect vehicle accelerated toward an officer’s patrol car and slammed into it, according to the statement.
Another officer shot the young driver, who died at a hospital. Two other juveniles who were in the vehicle were not injured, police said.
No identities have been released.

Another child… warped by Democrats’ lies and actions… is now DEAD !!!
Please explain what “democrats” lies and action prompted a 13 years old kid to drive into a police car? Do a 13 year old listen to anything or anybody?
Statements like that make us real republicans look like morons.
Wouldn’t have happened if we had a law making it illegal for a 13 year old from driving a car. Oh! Wait! We do have such a law!
Why isn’t the dead boy’s race mentioned?
And a 13-year-old was out at 1:30 AM in a stolen car? Really??? Hello Parents…anyone there?
What kind of parents raise a kid like this or did they abdicate their parental responsibilities?
Hopefully this will send a message
So where was the parents WHY did they alow this kid out Does his parents preach hate in there home They cant be preaching GOD These day so many are taught to hate the law for some reason Parents need to teach ther kids to comply But maybe they dont really care for there kid but that would keep them alive lot longer than hate will
Why have some people blamed ONLY the child’s parents for the sad incident? The school and the whole society must SHARE also the blame.
Shame on the culture that teaches kids about infinite individualism and total freedom without an slight responsibility to their families, society, and nation. Parents in this culture have absolutely no right to discipline even when their little kids commit any wrongdoing for fear of verbally/mentally abusing them.
Instead of pointing the middle finger, wouldn’t we better look at any possibility to prevent the same situation that could happen again in the future?
Well, an automobile used as a deadly weapon is a motive for the police to shoot, so, Well Done…..
If this is what he does now at 13, I rather he not be around to get nastier.
Who is to blame? Really , the culture that child was brought up in, our aggressive culture, schools, lack of parental good examples, lack of good mental healthcare early intervention……and maybe a family with far too many kids.
