Jessie J is living her truth — and holding nothing back. In a heartfelt and refreshingly candid video posted to Instagram on June 3, the British pop star revealed she’s been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
The news came with Jessie’s trademark mix of vulnerability and wit, as she shared the emotional update directly with her fans. “I’ve always shared everything I go through in my life,” she said. “Before No Secrets came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer.”
The title of her newest single, No Secrets, released in April, suddenly takes on a whole new meaning. Jessie explained she had been debating whether to go public with the diagnosis, but ultimately decided her fans deserved honesty.
While she acknowledged the fear that comes with the word “cancer,” she emphasized how grateful she is that doctors caught it early. And in classic Jessie fashion, she didn’t shy away from injecting humor into a difficult moment.
“I’m getting to keep my nipples,” she joked. “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job.” She also teased fans with a potential remix: Living My Breast Life, adding, “I’ll come back with massive t*ts and more music.”
Jessie also revealed she’ll be stepping back from the spotlight temporarily after her performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball on June 15 to undergo surgery.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, she maintained her positive energy, explaining that humor helps her get through the hard times. “These last two months have been so amazing,” she said. “Having this going on alongside it has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… your girl needs a hug.”
