Elijah Blue Allman, the son of music icons Cher and the late Gregg Allman, was rushed to a Southern California hospital over the weekend after reportedly overdosing in a disturbing incident that has left his inner circle shaken.
Sources told RadarOnline.com that the 47-year-old was found in distress on Saturday morning and taken to a hospital in Joshua Tree. While the exact substance that caused the overdose hasn’t been disclosed, those close to the situation say Elijah is “very lucky to have survived.”
“He’s hanging on, but it was a close call,” one insider said. “Cher is beside herself. Her only focus right now is getting Elijah the help he so desperately needs.”
Elijah has long battled addiction. In a brutally honest 2014 interview, he revealed he started using drugs as young as 11 and admitted he had “some close calls” with death. “I always kind of kept it a little bit safe,” he said at the time. “But you never can do that.”
