Rock fans around the world are mourning the loss of John Lodge, the legendary bassist and vocalist of The Moody Blues, who passed away at the age of 82. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, sharing that Lodge was “suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us.”
“He peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly,” the statement read.
Lodge’s family described him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, adding that his life was rooted in love—for his wife Kirsten, his family, his music, and his faith. They closed the message with Lodge’s signature goodbye: “Thank you for keeping the faith.”
John Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966, just before the band skyrocketed to global fame. Known for his distinctive falsetto and melodic basslines, he helped define the band’s psychedelic, symphonic sound. Over the years, he co-wrote and performed on numerous fan favorites including Peak Hour, Time to Get Away, Gimme a Little Somethin’, and Eyes of a Child.
In 2018, Lodge and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honoring decades of influence on the music world. Even in his later years, he remained a passionate artist, continuing to tour and record.
