Rapper Playboi Carti, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter, has been charged with assault in Wasatch County, Utah, following an alleged altercation with a limousine driver during his Antagonist 2.0 Tour.

The 28-year-old artist was officially charged with a class B misdemeanor on October 9, a week after the incident reportedly took place on October 2. According to authorities, police were called after witnesses saw two men fighting near a pair of black SUVs.

Deputies from the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene near River Road and State Route 40. A limousine driver told officers that Carti was his passenger and claimed the rapper assaulted him.

The driver explained that he was taking Carti and his entourage from a Park City hotel to Utah Valley University for a rehearsal when an argument broke out between Carti and his girlfriend. The two reportedly began smoking marijuana and arguing in the vehicle. The driver said he pulled over to defuse the situation, but things escalated.

The driver told police that once everyone exited the vehicle, Carti allegedly struck his girlfriend. Although the driver didn’t witness the actual hit, he claimed he saw her holding her chest afterward. When the driver turned toward Carti, he said the rapper punched him in the face, leaving visible swelling and redness on his jaw. Deputies documented his injuries at the scene.

There were conflicting accounts of what happened. Carti’s girlfriend told police she hit the driver for “getting involved,” while the rapper’s security guard claimed responsibility, saying he elbowed the driver using a “martial arts move.” Carti reportedly admitted to punching the driver but said it was because he had stopped “in a weird place.”

Deputies cited Carti for assault and photographed his hands as evidence. He cooperated with officers but refused to have his face photographed, allegedly accusing the driver of exaggerating because of his fame.

Despite the charge, Carti has continued his tour and performed in Salt Lake City the next night. His Antagonist 2.0 Tour is set to wrap up in Atlanta on December 1.

The rapper, who has millions of monthly listeners and multiple award nominations, has not made a public statement. His case will move forward in Wasatch County Court, where he could face fines or a short jail sentence if convicted.
