Jeff Garcia, the beloved voice behind Sheen Estevez in Nickelodeon’s Jimmy Neutron franchise, has died at the age of 50. His son, Joseph Garcia, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram.
According to family members speaking with TMZ, Garcia passed away early Wednesday morning after being taken off life support at a Southern California hospital. He had been dealing with serious health complications in recent months. The official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Born on May 3, 1975, in Irvine, California, Garcia got his start as a stand-up comedian in 1991, performing at Southern California clubs like the Laugh Factory. By 1995, he had begun acting, building a career that spanned decades.
Garcia became best known as the voice of the hyperactive Sheen Estevez, first in 2001’s Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and later in spinoffs The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and Planet Sheen. He also reprised the role in the TV movie Jimmy Neutron: Attack of the Twonkies in 2005.
His voice work extended beyond Jimmy Neutron. He guest-starred on MTV’s Clone High, voiced Tyler Nelson in The Maw franchise, and brought Pip the mouse to life in Steve Oedekerk’s Barnyard, later reprising the role in Nickelodeon’s Back at the Barnyard (2007–2011). He also voiced Tipa in the animated films Rio and Rio 2, as well as Rinaldo in Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2.
Garcia also had live-action roles, appearing on Caroline in the City (1995), Dangerous Minds (1996), and Byron Allen’s sitcom Mr. Box Office (2012). In late October, just weeks before his passing, he appeared as a guest on Allen’s talk show Comics Unleashed.
He is survived by his son, Joseph, and daughter, Savannah.
In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, Joseph wrote: “The talent my father possessed was truly one of a kind. From voice acting to stand-up comedy, he shined with his quick wit, brash humor, and charm. He has made such an impact on people’s lives internationally, whether you grew up watching Jimmy Neutron, or shared a laugh with him at one of his shows. He was my hero… I idolized him. He may be gone, but he will NEVER be forgotten.”
