A terrifying moment unfolded at Phillies spring training camp in Florida when reliever Daniel Robert suddenly collapsed on the mound — sending shockwaves through the entire organization.
The 31-year-old pitcher was throwing in a bullpen session Sunday in Clearwater when he suffered what team officials described as a cardiac incident.
Medical staff rushed into action immediately.
Sources say a defibrillator was used on Robert right there on the field before he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, the Phillies later confirmed he is now in stable condition and alert.
Still, the scare didn’t come completely out of nowhere.
Robert had not appeared in any spring training games this year after doctors flagged a cardiovascular issue during his pre-camp medical exams — a warning sign that now feels even more serious in hindsight.
What makes the situation even more alarming is that this isn’t the first time.
The right-hander reportedly suffered a similar cardiac episode back in October. At the time, he credited the Phillies’ medical team with saving his life after they performed CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart.
Last season, Robert posted a 4.15 ERA across 15 appearances for Philadelphia, carving out a role in the bullpen.
Now, the focus shifts far beyond baseball.
Players and staff are said to be shaken after watching the frightening scene unfold in real time — and all eyes are on Robert’s recovery after yet another life-threatening health scare.
