A tragic accident has claimed the life of a young college football player, leaving family, friends, and teammates in shock.

Kelvin Level Broadhurst Jr., a 20-year-old defensive lineman for North Carolina A&T, died over the weekend after a motorcycle crash in Greensboro, North Carolina.

According to police, Broadhurst was riding a Ducati motorcycle around 5 p.m. when he lost control while traveling on Interstate 40 and attempting to merge onto U.S. 29 South. Authorities say he struck a guardrail and was thrown from the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Those who knew Broadhurst say his impact went far beyond the football field.

“He’s just always been the most polite, most respectful young man… and everybody that came in contact with him loved him,” his mother, Latoya Lyles, said.

She shared the heartbreak of the sudden loss, explaining that she had been preparing to celebrate his upcoming 21st birthday—only to now be planning his funeral.

“I loved him with everything in me… he made me a better woman from the day he was born,” she said.

Broadhurst had appeared in 28 games during his time at North Carolina A&T, recording 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks. His strongest season came during his sophomore year, when he played in all 12 games.

Originally from Woodland, South Carolina, he attended Dorman High School before continuing his football career at the historically Black university.
