Frustration is boiling over in the search for Nancy Guthrie — the mother of Today show star Savannah Guthrie — as new questions emerge about why outside help hasn’t been brought in.
Nancy has been missing since early February, and with each passing day, the urgency — and heartbreak — continues to grow.
Now, the United Cajun Navy, a well-known volunteer rescue group credited with saving thousands during disasters like Hurricane Katrina, says it’s ready to step in and help search — but claims it’s being ignored.
The group says it submitted a detailed 41-page plan to Chris Nanos, offering to deploy highly trained K-9 units, advanced drones, and experienced search teams to assist in locating Nancy.
“I don’t think there would be any harm,” said incident commander Josh Gill. “If anything, it could bring us one step closer to answers — not just for her family, but for everyone watching this case.”
Instead, they say they’re still waiting for approval.
Growing increasingly frustrated, members of the group have now taken their concerns public, backing a petition urging Sheriff Nanos to allow them to join the search. Supporters argue that turning away experienced volunteers with specialized resources only raises more questions.
And those questions are piling up.
Sheriff Nanos is already under intense scrutiny, with critics accusing him of botching key parts of the investigation. Some say the crime scene was released too quickly, while others point to conflicting information given during press briefings.
There have also been reports of behind-the-scenes tension with federal investigators, including concerns about how evidence has been handled.
Inside the department, morale is reportedly low as the case drags on without major breakthroughs — and calls for accountability are getting louder.
Meanwhile, Nancy’s loved ones — including her daughter, a familiar face to millions of Americans — are left waiting for answers.
