A wild moment at a Major League Baseball game has fans fuming — after a grown man was caught on camera taking a ball right out from under a young girl.
The incident happened Monday night during a game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians, when Cleveland’s Daniel Schneemann launched a two-run home run to right field.
What should’ve been a dream moment for a young fan quickly turned into something very different.
The ball initially slipped out of an adult fan’s hands and bounced down toward a little girl, who rushed down the steps hoping to grab it. But instead of stepping aside, the man scrambled after it too — and ended up snatching it before she could.
He then raised the ball in celebration and walked back to his seat, while the visibly upset girl was left empty-handed.
The moment, caught on live TV, spread quickly online — and the backlash was immediate.

Fans blasted the man across social media, calling the move “pathetic” and “embarrassing,” with many saying there’s an unwritten rule in baseball: if a kid has a shot at a ball, you let them have it.
Even the broadcast team couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Tampa Bay announcer Andy Freed reacted in real time, saying, “No! He’s not gonna steal that!” while analyst Brian Anderson added, “Yeah, that can’t happen.”
But then came a moment that completely changed the story.
Rays sideline reporter Ryan Bass stepped in after witnessing the incident and personally brought baseballs up to the young girl and her little brother, making sure they didn’t leave empty-handed.
The girl, who had been seen crying, was given a new ball — and the gesture quickly won praise from fans watching at home.
Behind the scenes, her brother had even approached the man to ask for the original ball back.
Later that night, the girl’s mother shared an update on Facebook revealing that the pressure from the crowd — and the viral backlash — ultimately worked.
The man did return the home run ball several innings later.
While it may not have undone the moment, the ending brought some relief. The family said they were grateful to those who stepped in and stood up for their daughter, calling it a powerful example of sportsmanship.
