A tragic scene unfolded aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship after a passenger reportedly jumped from his balcony into the ocean during a Caribbean cruise.

According to Carnival officials, the incident happened Wednesday while the Carnival Liberty was sailing from Celebration Key to Nassau during a seven-day cruise departing from New Orleans.

The man, whose identity has not been publicly released, allegedly climbed over the railing of his stateroom balcony before jumping into the water.

Crew members immediately launched an emergency response and began a frantic search effort after the man went overboard.

Carnival later confirmed that the passenger was successfully pulled from the ocean, but despite rescue efforts, he did not survive.

“Carnival Liberty crew responded quickly with a search effort and successfully retrieved him from the water, but he did not survive,” the cruise line said in a statement.

The company said it is currently supporting the man’s grieving family, who were reportedly traveling with him at the time of the incident.

The Carnival Liberty was in the middle of a seven-day round-trip cruise that included stops in Key West, Celebration Key and Nassau.

The shocking incident comes just days after another deadly tragedy linked to Carnival Cruise Line.

An 88-year-old woman reportedly died on May 9 after losing control of her mobility scooter and falling off a pier at Celebration Key in the Bahamas.

Authorities in the Bahamas are now investigating both incidents, according to reports.
