A Vans Warped Tour attendee has reportedly died after suffering a devastating traumatic brain injury during the festival’s stop in Long Beach, California, leaving his grieving family desperate to learn what happened.
David Granado Jr., a San Jose native, was reportedly injured during or around the time rock band Thrice performed on Sunday, July 26.
Details about the tragedy began spreading Friday through posts shared on the Warped Tour subreddit and in a Facebook group dedicated to the Long Beach festival.
David attended the event with his brother, Alejandro Granado. The brothers later separated so they could watch different bands performing on separate stages.
Alejandro said he and David were apart for approximately 90 minutes before David was admitted to a local emergency room at around 8:19 p.m.
According to information Alejandro said he gathered from other concertgoers, David was apparently able to walk to one of the festival’s medical tents on his own before he was transported to the hospital.
Doctors reportedly determined that David had suffered a severe brain injury and performed multiple surgeries in an effort to save him.
His family later launched a GoFundMe campaign confirming that he had suffered the devastating injury.
However, it remains unclear how David was hurt or what occurred in the moments before he sought medical assistance.
David’s relatives have also raised serious concerns about what they described as a lack of communication from festival organizers.
“I sent an email the night I was called to the emergency room for my brother,” Alejandro wrote online. “The festival has yet to respond in 4 days.”
Alejandro also alleged that David’s listed emergency contact was not notified when he arrived at the medical tent or when he was transported to the hospital.
He later announced that his brother had died and urged anyone who witnessed the incident or knew how David was injured to contact him directly.
The family is now searching for attendees who may have seen David during or around Thrice’s performance and could help piece together his final movements at the festival.
As of Friday evening, Vans Warped Tour organizers had not publicly addressed the reported death or the family’s allegations.
The circumstances surrounding David’s injury remain unknown.
