Carlee Russell, who vanished after someone in Alabama reported seeing a little child alone on the road, has been discovered alive, according to authorities.
The 25-year-old was found two days after her disappearance spurred a massive search, according to the Hoover Police Department. Just a few minutes after calling the police to report seeing a child on the road, Russell vanished.
When she returned, she was brought to a hospital for assessment, according to Hoover Police Capt. Keith Czeskleba. She was freed after receiving treatment, and she has given the police a statement. In order to protect the integrity of the investigation over the coming days, Russell’s statement’s specifics are being kept under wraps.
The police spokesperson said that officers are optimistic in their ongoing investigation because they have been able to follow most of Russell’s movements before she vanished. After Russell went missing for two days, the case took a dramatic turn.
She reported the child’s presence on the freeway to 911 and a family member after leaving work in Birmingham. When the police arrived, they discovered Russell’s car and some of her belongings, but neither she nor the child were anywhere to be seen. There have been no additional reports of a missing toddler to the authorities. In a press statement, Lt. Daniel Lowe stated that a witness had claimed to have seen a gray vehicle with a man standing close to Russell’s automobile. However, there is currently no additional information available regarding the person or the vehicle.
An anonymous donor offered a $20,000 prize in the case throughout the inquiry, while Crimestoppers added an additional $5,000 to encourage information. Her family and friends shared their relief at Russell’s safe return on social media, while also pleading for privacy at this time. Thomar Simmons, Russell’s boyfriend, thanked everyone who helped find his girlfriend on Instagram. Russell had been battling for her life for 48 hours, and he highlighted how important it was to respect her predicament.
He also said that she would not be able to offer updates on her kidnapper’s whereabouts until she is both physically and mentally stable.
