The baseball world came to a complete pause after Ronald Acuna Jr. suffered a scary injury.
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. left Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after collapsing on the field with a non-contact knee injury.
The injury occurred as Acuña advanced from second base on the base paths. He clutched his left leg as he collapsed to the ground, clearly in pain. He lay on the ground for a few moments as trainers attended to him. At some point, he was able to leave the field, but he didn’t go back into the game.

That is the absolute last thing the Braves needed right now. An Acuña knee injury. Pray for him. 🙏🏻#BravesCountry— Phil J Ñull (@PhilNull) May 26, 2024
Shortly after he departed the game, the Braves described the injury as pain in his left knee. There were no immediate information provided regarding the injury.
Ronald Acuna had an anterior ligament tear in his right knee in 2021. He missed the second half of the season due to that injury.
The current National League MVP, Ronald Acuna, is a four-time All-Star. With 41 home runs, 106 RBI, 149 runs scored, and 73 stolen bases in 2023, he slashed.337/.416/.596, leading the league in runs, hits, stolen bases, and on-base percentage. This season, in 48 games, he’s slashing.246/.348/.356, with 16 stolen bases, 15 RBI, and four home homers, via MLB.com.
The team later announced that Acuña Jr., will unfortunately miss the remainder of the 2024 season after an MRI revealed a complete tear of his ACL. Acuña’s injury is the team’s second season-ending setback as they aim to contend for their second World Series crown in four years. Only two games were tossed by All-Star starter Spencer Strider this season before he had season-ending internal bracing surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow.

The team has managed to stay afloat after losing their top pither for the season, but a significant injury to Acuna could have the team falling in the standings as they look to keep pace with the Philadelphia Phillies, who are one of three teams who do not have 20 losses on the year as of yet.
