Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, the beloved actor known for his roles in television and film, has passed away at the age of 61 following ongoing health struggles.

Peter, who appeared in shows like NCIS and the Magnum P.I. reboot, died on Monday morning in Phoenix, Arizona from heart complications. His son, Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo, confirmed the sad news on social media. “My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here … His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt,” Manoah wrote, reflecting on his father’s legacy.

Peter’s career spanned decades, beginning in 1991, and he became a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood. His impressive list of TV credits includes Mayans M.C., New Girl, Black-ish, and Ray Donovan. He also made his mark on the big screen, appearing in films like The Fast and the Furious, The Scorpion King, and Austin Powers: Goldmember.

Peter’s family is currently making plans for a celebration of his life, with further details to be shared once finalized.

Peter’s legacy was not without its complexities. In 2012, his relative Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was involved in the infamous Manti Te’o catfishing scandal, where a fake girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, was created online. Ronaiah, who is now a transgender woman, was still pre-transition at the time. In 2013, Peter discussed plans for the family to address the hoax in a thoughtful way, emphasizing their goal to handle the situation with care.
