King Charles and Queen Camilla rolled up their sleeves during a special outing in London, where they spent the day connecting with local Muslim communities ahead of Ramadan. The royal couple visited Darjeeling Express, an Indian restaurant owned by celebrity chef Asma Khan, where they helped pack dates—a traditional food eaten to break the Ramadan fast.
Charles, 76, impressed everyone with his fast hands, drawing laughter when Khan marveled at his speed.
“I didn’t realize the King would be so fast!” she joked in a video shared by the royal family. “You are packing dates faster than I can seal them.”
Khan also praised the couple’s teamwork, quipping, “I never realized this is a speedy couple,” prompting even more laughter from those gathered.
After their date-packing duties, King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped into the kitchen with head chef Asha Pradhan to help prepare biryani meals for Doorstep, a charity assisting families in need of housing.
At one point, Charles got distracted chatting with guests, leading Camilla to playfully call him back to work.
“I think my husband is supposed to be doing this,” she teased, before calling out, “Gentlemen, we are waiting!”
The King then visited Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, where he met with members of London’s Syrian community. Restaurant owner Imad Eddin al Arnab, who lost his three restaurants in Damascus before fleeing to the UK as a refugee in 2015, shared his story.
Also present were BAFTA-winning filmmaker Waad Al-Kateab and her husband Hamza, who created the award-winning documentary For Sama, chronicling the devastation of the Syrian Civil War.
Charles expressed deep sympathy for the group’s experiences, leaving a powerful impression on al Arnab.
“The King knows so much about Syrian cuisine, culture, and history. It’s amazing that he cares,” he said. “This kind of support from His Majesty shows us how much we mean as human beings.”
