Vogue is under fire after unveiling its June 2025 digital cover featuring Lauren Sánchez Bezos, fresh off her extravagant $50 million wedding to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in Venice, Italy.

The magazine dropped the cover on Instagram just as the couple’s lavish weekend wrapped up, showing Sánchez, 55, in a custom Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown. The post also revealed she’s officially taken her husband’s last name, now going by Lauren Sánchez Bezos.

But instead of applause, the reaction was swift and brutal.

Many readers were baffled by the editorial choice—especially as it followed Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s decision to step down after 37 years. “No wonder Anna stepped down,” one user wrote. Another added, “I didn’t realize you could just buy a cover now 💀💀💀.”

The backlash wasn’t just about the gown. Critics blasted the magazine for celebrating someone known more for her wealth and high-profile relationship than any meaningful public influence. One commenter put it plainly: “As Anna Wintour closes her era at Vogue, the final cover could have been a bold statement… instead, it features a woman most widely known through her association with extreme wealth.”

Another follower took a sharper tone, asking Vogue to “read the f—ing room,” calling the cover tone-deaf amid global economic tensions and ongoing criticism of billionaire excess.

The criticism also comes after weeks of local protests in Venice, where residents voiced frustration over the disruption and environmental impact of the couple’s high-profile nuptials. For many, the cover felt like a final insult.
