A former Oregon police officer has been fired after admitting he coerced a drunk woman into sex while on duty — right after responding to her car crash.
David McVeigh, 35, entered a no-contest plea to first-degree misconduct, admitting he pressured the woman into a sexual act back in 2019. Court records show he struck a controversial deal that lets him avoid a permanent criminal record if he completes 150 hours of community service by 2026.
The shocking case began on November 24, 2019, when McVeigh was dispatched to help a woman who had driven off the road while intoxicated. After arranging a tow truck, he gave her a ride home — then pressured her into oral sex. The woman later told investigators she agreed because she thought it would keep her from getting a ticket.
She didn’t report the incident until two years later, when she was arrested in an unrelated domestic violence case and revealed she had been coerced by a Milwaukie police officer named “David.” Detectives eventually tracked her down, and phone and dispatch records backed up her story.
McVeigh, who joined the force in 2016, was fired in March 2023 after charges were filed. Ironically, just two years after the assault, the department was still publicly praising him on Facebook for “going the extra mile” by clearing trees, delivering firewood, and digging out blocked roads. That glowing tribute now looks grim in hindsight.
The officer’s troubling behavior didn’t stop there. In 2022, while attending a police training event, McVeigh was accused of stalking a woman outside Spirit Mountain Casino at 3 a.m. He claimed he was simply trying to sell her a rare bottle of liquor, but the incident alarmed his superiors and led to his suspension.
In January 2024, his plea deal was finalized: McVeigh must perform community service, surrender his police license for good, and keep his record clean until a 2026 hearing. If he fulfills the terms, his case will be dismissed.
Neither McVeigh nor his attorney have commented on the scandal. The Milwaukie Police Department has also declined to respond.
