The son of a longtime LA Crips leader and music mogul was fatally shot outside a South Los Angeles smoke shop Friday night.

Jabari “Baby Uiie” Henley, 34, whose father Eugene Henley Jr. once led the Rollin’ 60’s Neighborhood Crips and earned a reputation as a rap industry “godfather,” was shot around 11 p.m. at the corner of 69th Street and Figueroa Street, according to TMZ.

Authorities say Henley approached a car when a gunman—or multiple suspects—opened fire. Emergency responders tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect remains at large.

Henley was also the older brother of Los Angeles Chargers inside linebacker Daiyan Henley.

The tragedy comes amid a cloud of legal trouble surrounding his father. In March, Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr., 58, turned himself in to federal agents for allegedly running a “Mafia-like” criminal enterprise, including murder, human trafficking, robbery, and extortion. He is the main target of a 43-count RICO indictment linked to the Rollin’ 60s street gang, which federal prosecutors say operated like a mob syndicate.

Henley Jr. is accused of orchestrating the “Big U Enterprise,” a network of crimes ranging from murder to sophisticated fraud, including tax evasion and misappropriation of charity funds. He is also suspected in the 2021 murder of aspiring musician Rayshawn Williams, who had signed with Henley Jr.’s music label and was allegedly killed after recording a song that insulted him.

The shooting was reportedly heartbreaking for those tied to Henley Jr.’s circle, as some of the key figures were behind bars at the time. Music mogul Termaine Ashley Williams, known as “Luce Cannon,” reportedly broke the news of Jabari Henley’s death to his father.

Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was gang-related.
