Florida rapper Poorstacy, known for blending emo rap, punk, and heavy metal into his signature sound, has died at the age of 26.
The artist, whose real name was Carlito Milfort Jr., died on Saturday, Nov. 29 following what authorities described as an “incident” in Boca Raton, Florida. Police confirmed his death on Tuesday, Dec. 2. TMZ first reported the news.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and an official cause of death has not yet been released.
According to Billboard, officers were called to a hotel in Boca Raton on Saturday, where Poorstacy had been staying for about 10 days. A hotel employee told TMZ that he was rushed to a nearby hospital after a medical emergency. The worker added that he had checked in with a woman and a toddler, though he was the only person taken to the hospital.
The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet provided additional information.
Poorstacy rose to prominence through a genre-blending style that connected him with major artists across multiple scenes. He frequently collaborated with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who worked with him on several tracks, including 2020’s “Choose Life,” “Nothing Left,” and “Hills Have Eyes.”
After learning of his death, Barker paid tribute on Instagram, posting a clip of them performing together and writing, “Rest in peace you’ll never be forgotten,” along with a broken heart emoji. He also shared a snippet of their track “Choose Life.”
Poorstacy also collaborated with Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes, who honored him with a simple “R.I.P” and a black heart emoji on his Instagram Stories. His work reached the big screen as well, appearing on the 2020 Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack, which went on to earn a Grammy nomination.
His final Instagram post came in August, showing three photos of himself sitting inside a car, with one picture including a child.
Poorstacy released his latest single, “Nothing belongs to you.,” in July, and he appeared on Paris Shadows’ “Last Time Around,” which dropped in October.
