A fun day at the pool turned into an unthinkable tragedy for a young girl and her family.

Twelve-year-old Laura Pereira Camargo was swimming with friends in Mirassol, São Paulo, Brazil, when a routine moment suddenly became life-threatening. According to reports, her hair became tangled in a pool suction pump, trapping her underwater and preventing her from coming up for air.

By the time she was finally freed, more than five minutes had passed.

Laura was rushed to a hospital in São José do Rio Preto in critical condition, as doctors fought to save her life. Despite their efforts, she passed away two days later from multiple organ failure and complications, including bacterial pneumonia.

Her funeral was scheduled for Tuesday, as loved ones and the local community grapple with the devastating loss.

The heartbreaking incident is part of a disturbing pattern of similar accidents.

Just days earlier, another 12-year-old — Matteo Brandimarti — died during a family vacation in Italy after a freak hot tub accident. The boy was playing in a jacuzzi at the upscale Duca di Montefeltro Hotel on Easter Sunday when his leg was pulled into a filter, trapping him underwater for several minutes.

Hotel staff quickly shut off the power and attempted life-saving measures, but Matteo later died at the hospital.
