A shocking case out of Mexico City is raising serious questions after a former beauty queen was found dead inside her luxury apartment—and investigators are now zeroing in on someone very close to her.
Carolina Flores Gómez, 27, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in her apartment located in the upscale Polanco area. Authorities believe she may have been killed a day before police were alerted.
Gómez, who won the Miss Teen Universe Baja California title in 2017, was known for her presence in the pageant world and had been living in one of the city’s most secure and affluent neighborhoods.
But despite the high-end setting, investigators say something didn’t add up.
Reports indicate that Gómez’s husband, Alejandro, waited until the following day to contact police, raising concerns among authorities. Officials also believe both he and his mother were inside the apartment around the time of the suspected killing.
Now, attention has turned to the victim’s mother-in-law, who is reportedly being considered a key suspect as investigators work to piece together what happened.
Adding to the mystery, building staff say they didn’t hear any gunshots or notice anything unusual at the complex, which is known for its tight security.
Forensic teams have since combed through the apartment for evidence, while officials push forward with the investigation.
The case has drawn national attention, with Marina del Pilar Ávila calling for a thorough and urgent investigation.
Advocates are also demanding the case be treated as a possible femicide, pointing to ongoing concerns about violence against women in Mexico. According to official data, around 10 women are killed each day in the country, with only a small percentage of cases leading to convictions.
