Fans are rallying around legendary singer Bonnie Tyler after the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” hitmaker was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery in Portugal.
The shocking health scare was confirmed Wednesday in a statement shared on Tyler’s official website.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement said.
Thankfully, representatives said the operation was successful and the 74-year-old singer is now recovering.
“The surgery went well and she is now recuperating,” the statement continued. “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”
Tyler’s team did not immediately release additional details about what led to the emergency procedure.
The frightening medical emergency comes just weeks before the music icon was scheduled to kick off her 2026 European tour in Malta on May 22.
At this point, it remains unclear whether the surgery will impact any upcoming performances.
The Welsh superstar first rose to fame in the late 1970s with hits like It’s a Heartache and “Lost in France,” but her career exploded globally in 1983 thanks to the massive success of Total Eclipse of the Heart.
The power ballad became one of the most recognizable songs of the decade and helped turn Tyler into an international superstar.
She later followed it up with another huge hit, Holding Out for a Hero, which was featured in the hit movie Footloose.
Despite decades in the music business, Tyler recently admitted she still gets emotional hearing her biggest songs played around the world.
“I still get excited when I hear the song on the radio,” she said during a 2024 interview on Good Morning America while discussing “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
“Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world plays ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ and I never get tired of singing it,” she added.
Earlier this year, Tyler opened up about aging, health struggles, and why she still has no plans to retire from performing.
“I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows,” she told Hello magazine in March. “I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”
She also revealed she had recently dealt with knee problems and underwent procedures she described as “washouts,” which she said were successful.
Although Tyler admitted she has slowed down over the years, she insisted she has no plans to step away from music anytime soon.
“I started singing when I was 17, and I never thought I’d still be doing it at this age,” she said in a previous interview. “I’ve slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire.”
