A frightening moment unfolded during the Kansas City Royals game against the Chicago White Sox after a fan reportedly fell from the stands into the Royals bullpen.

The terrifying incident happened Wednesday night at Rate Field in Chicago and briefly stopped the game as emergency crews rushed to help the injured spectator.

According to witnesses, the fan appeared to jump up celebrating during the game before suddenly flipping over the railing and crashing down into the visiting team’s bullpen area.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life,” one eyewitness told the Kansas City Star.

The fan reportedly landed hard enough that medical personnel immediately rushed onto the field while players and coaches looked on in shock.

Video from the stadium showed the game coming to a halt in the fourth inning as workers surrounded the injured fan and prepared him for transport.

The spectator was eventually taken away on a stretcher and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

As of now, officials have not publicly released the fan’s condition.

The White Sox later confirmed the incident in a statement.

“Tonight’s game was delayed in the fourth inning to allow White Sox personnel to treat a fan who had fallen in the visiting team’s bullpen,” the team said.

Fortunately, reports indicate none of the Royals relievers were directly underneath the area where the fan landed.

Still, the frightening situation clearly rattled players on both teams.

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino questioned afterward whether the game should have continued at all.

“Thoughts to that guy — hopefully he’s OK,” Pasquantino said after the game.

Reliever Nick Mears said Kansas City players quickly moved away from the bullpen area so emergency responders could help the injured fan.

“Baseball’s just a game when it comes to that stuff,” Mears said.

“Obviously human lives are something different.”

The shocking fall immediately reminded many baseball fans of another horrifying stadium accident from last year, when Pittsburgh Pirates fan Kavan Markwood fell more than 20 feet onto the field while celebrating a play.

That incident left Markwood with severe injuries including a broken neck, back, and collarbone.

Now, fans online are once again raising concerns about stadium safety barriers following another terrifying fall inside a major league ballpark.
