Selena Gomez is pushing back against a lawsuit accusing her and her mother, Mandy Teefey, of misleading investors who poured more than $1 million into their mental health company Wondermind.
The legal battle erupted after Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC sued Gomez, Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson, claiming they were given false assurances about the struggling startup.
The plaintiffs say they invested nearly $1.2 million after allegedly being misled about Wondermind’s leadership, infrastructure, partnerships and overall financial health.
They also claim investors were kept in the dark while the company was “quietly” falling apart.
Gomez, however, is strongly denying wrongdoing.
Her attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, called the lawsuit “meritless, both factually and legally” in a statement to People and said he plans to seek its dismissal.
The lawsuit comes after Wondermind faced growing scrutiny over its internal problems.
An investigation by The Cut last year reported that employees were repeatedly paid late and that the company was dealing with serious financial and operational struggles.
Several former employees also criticized Teefey’s leadership and questioned whether she had the experience needed to run the startup.
Teefey has not publicly responded to the latest lawsuit.
Pierson, who co-founded Wondermind before stepping down in 2023 following reported disagreements with Teefey, has also denied the accusations.
Her representatives said she “categorically” rejects the allegations against her.
Wondermind was launched as a mental fitness and wellness platform, with Gomez’s high-profile involvement helping bring major attention to the company.
Now, instead of focusing on mental health content, the startup finds itself at the center of a messy legal fight over what investors were allegedly told before putting money into the business.
Gomez’s legal team has made clear that it plans to fight the claims and push to have the case thrown out.
