Kirk Medas, known for his time on MTV’s Floribama Shore, has died at the age of 33 after battling a severe medical condition in the ICU. His father confirmed that the reality TV star passed away from liver failure following complications from necrotizing pancreatitis.
Just hours before his passing, friends and former castmates had taken to social media asking fans to pray for Medas and donate to a GoFundMe to help cover his medical expenses. The fundraiser, which has since raised over $27,000, was recently updated to assist with funeral arrangements.
Medas had been sedated and placed on a ventilator for nearly two weeks after being admitted to the hospital. He was diagnosed with necrotizing pancreatitis, a life-threatening condition in which inflammation causes parts of the pancreas to die. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition can lead to both short- and long-term complications.
MTV released a statement expressing heartbreak over Medas’ death: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Kirk Medas, a beloved member of the Floribama Shore family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time.”
Castmates Candace Rice Hall and Nilsa Prowant were among those who shared emotional messages and updates during Medas’ hospitalization. After his death, Hall wrote a heartbreaking tribute recalling a moment at the beach when she felt his presence before getting the news. “A dolphin kept coming up to me, as if to say goodbye,” she wrote. “Kirk and I shared a love for dolphins and the ocean, and in that moment, I just knew.”
She added, “Though my heart is shattered, I find peace in knowing he’s no longer in pain. He’s in heaven now—free, whole, and making everyone laugh the way only he could.”
Nilsa Prowant also remembered him fondly. “Kirk could light up a room with his smile,” she said. “He was more than just a friend—he was family, uncle, roommate, the best guy everyone knew. His soul was the kindest, most genuine I’ve ever known.”
Medas appeared in 25 episodes of Floribama Shore from 2017 to 2020 and quickly became a fan favorite for his humor, heart, and loyalty to his friends. His sudden passing has left fans and loved ones stunned, as they remember a man who always showed up for others.
The GoFundMe page remains active for those who wish to support the Medas family during this time.
