Donyelle Denise Wilson — known to millions of dance fans as Donyelle Jones from So You Think You Can Dance — has passed away at just 46 years old.
Her family announced the heartbreaking news on her official Instagram page, sharing that Donyelle “transitioned” on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 8:34 a.m.
Her death comes nearly a decade after she was diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer in 2016, a battle that later progressed to stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Despite the aggressive disease, her loved ones said she “kicked cancer’s ass every single day she was here.”
They remembered her as “a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a warrior.” They wrote that her spirit “never dimmed,” her heart “never hardened,” and even through the darkest moments, “she never lost her smile.”
Donyelle became a fan favorite during Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance in 2006, finishing in third place thanks to her unforgettable blend of hip-hop and jazz and her magnetic stage presence.
After her diagnosis, she kept fans up to date on her journey through raw, honest posts. One milestone she proudly shared was teaching her first dance class in four years on July 6, 2025 — a birthday gift she gave herself. She wrote that cancer had taken so much from her, but she was learning how to “navigate each season” of life.
Just days before her passing, Donyelle posted a video saying she had begun putting her affairs in order and had “surrendered to whatever God’s will is.”
Tributes began pouring in almost immediately. Actress Yvette Nicole Brown called Donyelle “the best of us” and promised, “We will see you on the other side. I will be the one dancing toward you — me and my two left feet.”
The LA Dance Magic company also honored her, saying they were “heartbroken” and that her passion and kindness “touched countless lives.”
