Siena men’s lacrosse coach Liam Gleason has died just three days after a tragic fall at his home left him with a traumatic brain injury. He was only 41 years old.

Gleason, a beloved coach, husband, and father of three, passed away Monday outside Albany, leaving the college sports community in shock.

“A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding,” Siena President Chuck Seifert said in a statement. “It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason’s life.”

Before his death, friends and supporters launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses and support his family. The fundraiser quickly soared past $500,000, with hundreds sharing stories of Gleason’s kindness and impact.

“Liam is the best father, husband, brother, son, uncle, coach, and friend,” the GoFundMe page reads. “His heart is as big as his 6’5” frame, and the love he gives to those around him is immeasurable.”
The organizer later shared a photo of Gleason’s players lining the hospital hallway in a powerful show of love during his final moments.

Gleason’s family released an update following his passing:
“Thank you so much for your continued support of the Gleason family. They are overwhelmed by your generosity and love. We are heartbroken to share that Liam passed away peacefully today, December 3, 2025, surrounded by family.”

They added that Gleason, who had long expressed a desire to be an organ donor, would give life to others through the donation of his organs. A “Hero Walk” was held at Albany Medical Center in his honor.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Siena’s UHY Center.

Gleason grew up on Long Island and became a standout lacrosse player at the University at Albany before starting his coaching career. He joined Siena as an assistant in 2008, returned to Albany for his first head coaching position, and eventually came back to Siena as head coach in 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Jaclyn, a former college soccer player, and their three children: daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate.
