After more than three decades on air, a familiar face in South Florida news is signing off for good.
Veteran anchor Liz Quirantes is stepping away after 35 years with CBS News, marking the end of an era for viewers who have watched her deliver the news for decades.
“It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to the viewers, to the staff, and to my life here. I’m going to miss this,” she said, reflecting on her long career.
Quirantes’ final day on air at CBS12 will be May 29. She plans to retire and move to Oklahoma to be closer to her children.
Her journey started back in 1991 in West Palm Beach, when she joined the station as a temporary weekend reporter—never imagining it would turn into a lifelong career. Over the years, she became a staple in local news, eventually anchoring multiple broadcasts including the 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. shows.
Throughout her career, Quirantes earned widespread respect for her reporting, picking up multiple honors along the way. Among them were two Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards—one for her powerful coverage in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian in 2019, and another for her reporting on the 2018 Parkland school shooting.
But beyond the awards, she says what matters most is the connection she built with the community.
“I want them to remember that I was a devoted mom, a devoted wife, a good Christian, and an excellent journalist,” she shared in her farewell message.
