Diana Ross has sparked a wave of concern after suddenly backing out of a highly anticipated cruise ship appearance — just one week before the event.
The 81-year-old music icon was set to serve as “godmother” for Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas during its August 20 naming ceremony in Port Canaveral, Florida. The three-day cruise was to include a stop at the line’s private Bahamian waterpark, Perfect Day at CocoCay, and Ross had previously expressed her excitement about bringing along her children and grandchildren for the celebration.
But in a surprise announcement, her representative cited “unforeseen circumstances” for her withdrawal. The cruise line quickly confirmed she would not attend, adding they were “disappointed” and would reveal a new godmother soon.
While no official explanation was given, the sudden cancellation — paired with Ross’ packed schedule — has many fans worried about her health. She’s just days away from kicking off her Beautiful Love tour on August 16 in Saratoga, California, with dates running across the U.S. through December.
One fan on X voiced what many are thinking: “I honestly do hope she’s alright and it’s not a health issue.”
Ross has spoken in recent interviews about prioritizing her “health and well-being,” sharing that swimming, eating well (with the occasional Häagen-Dazs), and getting enough sleep are key to staying fit while performing. She’s also admitted she has no plans to retire, saying her love for performing “keeps me grounded.”
Still, some worry she may be pushing herself too hard — balancing international performances, family commitments, and major public appearances in her 80s. For now, Ross remains silent on the specifics, leaving fans to hope her absence is precautionary rather than a sign of something more serious.
