Bindi Irwin’s plans to honor her late father, Steve Irwin, took a heartbreaking turn when she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery during what was supposed to be a celebratory weekend in Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old wildlife conservationist had traveled from Australia with her mom, Terri, to attend the annual Steve Irwin Gala, an event dedicated to honoring her dad’s legacy and raising funds for wildlife conservation. But instead of walking the red carpet, Bindi was suddenly battling a ruptured appendix.

Her younger brother Robert, 21, revealed that even in severe pain, Bindi was determined to attend the event. “She came to Las Vegas and was ready to put on a brave face,” Robert shared. “She said, ‘I’m just going to tough it out.’ But the surgeon told her, ‘Your appendix is going. It’s got to come out.’”

While the surgery was successful, the ordeal rattled the close-knit family — especially as they prepared to mark the 19th anniversary of Steve Irwin’s tragic death on September 4, 2006, when the beloved “Crocodile Hunter” was killed in a stingray attack.

This isn’t the first health battle Bindi has faced in recent years. In March 2023, she revealed her long struggle with endometriosis after “13 years of fighting for answers.” In a candid Instagram post, she explained how doctors repeatedly dismissed her debilitating symptoms as normal period pain. When she finally underwent surgery, doctors discovered 37 lesions, a cyst, and extensive tissue damage.

“It’s been a very long road,” Bindi wrote at the time. “Trying to remain a positive person and hide the pain was exhausting. Going in for surgery was scary, but I knew I couldn’t keep living like that.”

During her recent appendix surgery in May, doctors also removed 14 additional lesions and repaired a hernia she developed after childbirth four years ago. Despite the setbacks, Bindi remains hopeful and grateful.

In a heartfelt Instagram update, she thanked her supporters and praised her brother for stepping up to host the gala in her absence, saying he made their late father proud by “doing such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors.”

Bindi is now recovering at home, focusing on her health while continuing to carry on her dad’s legacy.
